Suppose the marvelous correspondence of every second or third generation believing their times to be the end times proved at last to be correct and as such their linguistic habit or neighborhood engendered the formation of peculiar or eccentric languages puzzling over the quandary of the eschaton in new and exciting fashions, to wit: the praise of the faraway/near giving rise to a sudden surge of homonyms using local language and moral practices to formulate entirely new purposes, drawing boundaries and distinctions from a storehouse of concepts as yet undefined, languages from distant lands creating bulkheads on the shore of the proverbial psychic beach, and in doing so remaking the world, triggering the apocalypse as ever in the manner of a self-fulfilling prophecy, a naturalist's nightmare, sanity's bane, an objectivity-annihilating glossolalia of end times proportions determined as an end to all wars, the destruction of desolation and the nullification of distraction, exemption from idiocy and destructive ignorance cascading correlations heretofore misconceived.

A unifying reference crossed out, held in check, grounded to the extent that it carries the weight of the dichotomy addressed in any commentary or question, for much as a heart is designed to pump blood so to would this new language communicate aggregates in a series of assertions that address the activity of a subject as well as the ontological weight of an object, the “divine similitude” found lacking since the fall of the Tower of Babel. The key or indivisible mirror of this new form would sweep the diversity of structure in human language clear of all vagaries, would do away with the subjunctive sorrows that accrue in the shadows of any language or system of communication, wherein beliefs may be waylaid for appropriate environmental conditions, or rather, the pathetic relics of state that arise in political discourse inevitable to any such system, a bed of snakes developed with the intent to obfuscate simple matters and deride linguistic organization as a whole.

Where a word meets a boundary, there will the new language find purchase; details summarizing a resonance in second or third or fifth meaning, as the dimensions of time and space and potential arise, so too does the Eschaton Language. The essential function of a mode of communication such as this is to emphasize the deeper structure of meaning in language (or essence) to the degree that so-called "surface chatter" becomes increasingly irrelevant as words take on ever-greater (and ultimately infinite) resonance. As such, any attempt at a lexicon's functional application in this matter abdicates to a continual renunciation of appropriation by standardized systems and culminates in unframed correspondences or, in effect, a seeming silence.

As a poet wills no need for explanation, to deny a claim of poetics within the framework of Eschatological Linguistics is to call forth the unborn as well as the undying, that is, towards a realistic state of unbecoming, one might surmise an interpretation of assertions carrying such vast capacity would never satisfy investigators seeking conjunctions or determinations. The as yet unknown but innate structures that this language of the end times prepossesses deals with this problem elegantly enough: ambiguity gives way to pun, allegory, and a variety of emotion highly informed by what has been up until now described as ethereal, that is, rather than being a linguistic structure built on the edifice of sensation, it is a superstructure beholden to the interaction of forces. In this sense an oracular or inaugural weight is called upon in the problem of response; stanzas fall flat, haiku seems contrived, and any distinguishing between the Mind or the Hand seems a trivial observation to be shattered with each enunciation.

Standard sources are found lacking, for in the formation of an entirely new language one cannot hearken back to historical accounts for safe passage. One must first note the syntax, the phonological features, and the community by which the language has been derived. A lexicon composed of structures and sounds indicating an obliteration of the arbitrary is at first an obscene gesture in the undertaking; emotional markers are presupposed as contrary by nature, denying millenniums of development yet enveloping shifts in articulation and tearing down the trenchant divisions of formalism, there are inherently contradictory and hardly indistinguishable nuances to the presentation of the language as a whole. Classical doctrine is ravaged by the utterance of such a language, and literary theory is left by the wayside as the words of this language invade registrations and erase seeming photographic objectifications with very little to no effort, as if the act of said words existing had already started shifting the sands of time over recently-living ones, burying them alive, interbreeding with them, forming hybrids at the borders of old nations before erasing them from history completely.

The consistency of expectations comes in a discourse between individuals seeking to give solidity to the inexplicable through an outdated mode of communication. Treachery has birthed this language of eschatology, the silent annihilation all-too-often incorrectly identified as beholden to religious structures (predominantly the three Abrahamic faiths) and their inherent dogmatic restrictions and seemingly limitless self-contradictions. Eschatological linguistics arise rather conversely from the urge towards wholeness that presently existing discourses discount or disregard. The formation of this language is such that attempting to give a description of its peculiar nuance here, before its nascence, when its inception is still only a hint, a mote, a speck, is like a blind paraplegic with no tongue and one ear attempting to describe whalesong from a place on the shore.

The more joyful the sadness, the more soundly the paradox slumbers. Derivatives of the situation's gravity have given any well-meaning pundit a moment of pause, the enriched notion of exit presumes a full understanding of these informal remarks. The essence of human language is one of parallels and contradictions, voluminous black clouds of contrarian doublespeak and outright lies overhanging the symmetry of what is said and what is written. When statistical perfection is realized in the mind of an individual, any one will do, the roots of the eschatological language have taken hold, and the world of visionaries, mediums and the like is laid bare. A logical consistency is not immediately apparent but completely inherent to eschatological language. One might approach it as a book of thought which has evolved into a living organism. Images concerning it vary, but a quality is attached which may best be described as uncompromising though light, a primal station embraced by a degree of providence and a good quantity of something akin to but not quite grace.

I have had these quotes knocking about in my head for a while, visitors that have overstayed their welcome, to be quite honest. The first we attribute to Picasso, the latter to T.S. Eliot. Research indicates that Stravinsky has his own variation. It takes time to understand these statements, to get at their marrow, like Rabelais' example of a dog with a bone, being philosophical in its pursuit.

Art seems a mystery to anyone outside of the maybe those twenty or so people claiming to have a cohesive grip on the Art World's Zeitgeist, its current spirit, whatever kaleidoscopic chimera that happens to be, whether nostalgic/romantic, natural/contrived, passive/reactionary, or sublime/vacant. Art is a union of opposites eliciting a reaction.

The greatest joke in Picasso’s statement is that he very clearly wanted to be associated with the Artist as Genius archetype. Nobody but a few bitter unknowns here in Postmodernism’s soupy afterbirth, well after all the old canon have been dead for decades, dare to argue against his having fully embodied that. Picasso's definition of artist extended into the poetic and musical arts. Part of art's mystery has arisen from the fact that public education has, for America, at least, marginalized it into the dubious realm of hobby while elevating more bizarrely profitable pursuits in the sports realm to billionaire status. More than the mind-numbing logos and statistics of sports events, human beings need art. I cannot stress that enough.

For human beings, today more than ever, information is akin to food. Art is stored on a sunbeam of thought, a record of a thought’s passing, transmitted from object (sun) to subject (earth). The human story in relation to art is so simple it seems complex, and vice versa, but one should keep in mind that the devil always hides out in the details, and a letter is only a symbol, a word only a character, a sentence only a section of canvas, a layer of gesso first, then a well-worn trope dollop of this color or a worn cliché, such as the devil being in the details.

Sure, let the devil worry about the details, here in the year of our rotting zombie god, before fair Quetzalcoatl's return. What style of painting would you consider this short loose essay on the state of art? Rococo purple prose? Minimalist zen? Stark realism? Abstract Expressionism underscored with Dadaist nonsense wit and Imagist sensibilities? Labels, all mere labels in the countless gates to the truest Art, That Which Makes Us Feel.

Genius is misunderstood in our times as it has been in all times and sadly will be in most times to come. Dreamers are marginalized for the sake of fools and sociopaths that inherited their shameless mother’s verbiage and calculatingly mean father’s sense of entitlement. Often limited to associated patterns (imprints, as Robert Anton Wilson put it, again and again) set up by those that came before them, the populace as a whole struggles with the sheer stupidity of excess that is provided them by modern convenience. If you want a Q.E.D. on that, look out a window. Turn on a television.

Picasso was one of the final geniuses of the Modern art world, and his kind no longer exists. Most burned out, shot themselves, or faded away like family postcards. Sad but sweet. Now an artist such as Matthew Ritchie has a bio that dovetails with the painfully exoteric, that is, play football in high school, put yourself through Yale by modeling, then use connections to the modeling industry and the Guggenheim to develop a multimedia spectacle such as the Cremaster Cycle. Then marry Bjork to reinforce your personal mythology.

Andy Warhol made it acceptable for the artist to not be a genius, and with his “factory” he fulfilled the promise that the Industrial Revolution & (following the second world war) the Plastics Revolution made, effectively that no individual is special, but slightly varied wholly interchangeable components of a great and merciless machine that runs society for the sake of profit and prestige. But that’s cool, that can be worthwhile if the material excess is your game, free market shock as the New Archons start inculcating a whole new generation of artists with tacky kitsch advertising that owes its roots to everything that fateful Campbell’s Soup Can represents, politically, stylistically, and above all economically.

You can hardly blame Warhol for his part in the Revolution of Lowered Expectations, just like you can't blame the actions of Germany during the Third Reich on Hitler alone. If it hadn’t been him, it would have been someone else. Shills are corrosive when they are in power. Reactions such as black presidents or stock market crashes occur when a corporate stooge instigates needless conflict in the name of a prophet whose name was been abused repeatedly since the Empire got into the swing of things.

With the rise of new technologies and interfaces there are now numerous means of producing the Ultimate Cool, cheaply and with distinct aplomb. Our responsibility in the proper maintenance of this is staggering.

The collective imagination is such that certain areas in the shallower regions stagnate and compromise the entirety of the deeper, stiller regions. Using the recent horror in the Gulf of Mexico as a crude (pun and) metaphor, one may say we're poisoning the psychic landscape with the dispersed sludge of that aforementioned televised excess, indicative of the Revolution of Lowered Expectations: the unqualified Fox News pundits, the blogosphere, falsified news, conspiratorial drudge.

Those that attempt to access the ocean of Art World are in theory open minded individuals that react according to the parameters indoctrinated into them by their family and their friends and their social expectations, just like a closed minded person would, but often with a better sense of humor. The voice of the closed minded are staggering but in truth very minimal in scope. They cannot rewrite a history based on light particles and keyboards.

The future will bring more shame to the closed minded, in a long term historical sense.

The only cure for this malady I can prescribe may be the revival of an old archetype, that of Artist as Magician, though on the more esoteric levels of the Art World, one can already easily see how information media is already pervasive enough that, even if at times somewhat ignorant, the common man cannot claim innocence to searching for that sort of subject in his media stream. Harry Potter and the Wild Things and various other fantastic characters from books and movies inhabit an adult’s Dreamtime as well as that of children.

The cynical old man or the optimistic young one would perhaps come to blows on this issue, given proper inclination and circumstance, but how is it that a middle-aged man who has never so much as entered a museum in his life may, upon observing a post-Warhol piece, let’s say an enormous example of some abstract expressionist painting, say something to the effect of “Hell, I could do that.”

What this man doesn’t take into account is that artist was able to create this or that work only at great personal expense, believing in this or that benefactor, conceding this or that ideal for the sake of a commission or a show. The man that says “Hell, I could do that” hasn’t been shaken by art and thus does not understand art because he has better things, more practical things to think about. This is one of the reasons why Dada died & Surrealism grew to the point that it saturated the worldwide thought-currents, impacting the following century of advertising, design and illustration overall. The answer a child may give that man is simple: “Yeah, but you didn't.”

People are strange and stupid and mean, as the whole and too often individually. Anybody telling you differently is chemically balanced for their own protection. Hobbes is oft quoted as referring to human life as “nasty, brutish, and short”. People as a whole are not prone to enjoy ideals beyond their grasps, but rather, to become frustrated and even frightened by them. This is proven time and again throughout the Internet, an aggressively growing entity that a whole new generation of people have now lived with for their entire lives, a new essential.

In these years where the future seems bleak, I call on the Artist to shake people awake. Don’t you understand? Don’t you remember? The future is now. Today is quite obviously tomorrow. It should but doesn’t go without saying that Art is forever bonded to humanity. I cannot stress this enough. The scope of its impact on the collective imagination can be found in elemental traces one may identify within all the forms of media humans consume.

Just as the consumption of high calorie sweet treats may rot the teeth, so it would seem that in many cases the consumer mindset, wholly abhorrent to most truly creative efforts due to its being a democratically stymied system, has rotted down to the nerve. Overstimulated, cold is too cold, lukewarm is perfect.

The efforts of a handful of old men have led us on a limited run high-stakes rigged game up until this point, gamblers and salesmen, confidence men with a very deliberate brain-washing schemes, their method of approach unsustainable but seemingly irreplaceable due to the very powerful sedatives provided in our drinking water and by our doctors, but we have to bear in mind that though it is a terrible game, it’s the only game in town.

Sedation has its advantages for profiteers. For instance, any number of unfulfillable delusions or worries concerning one’s station and purpose and debt can be washed away by the warm glow of cable television. You can tone down your dreams until they’re monochrome, lower your expectations to the point of dramatic refusal to participate at all, though even inaction has its consequences.

But I digress, wander into a briar patch, fall into a ditch. No.

In light of the Obama Hope Poster/Shepard Fairey incident (in which I should stress Fairey told National Public Radio he recouped expenses and used the rest to make more prints and donate them, a profitless scheme that certain CEOs would find unnerving) and having read the commentary and criticism from various vitriolic pundits in the internet’s Peanut Gallery, I put forth a point that few Doctors of English will argue with, simply that Shakespeare did not write every line of his work, more likely only two thirds at best. Can you guys please understand how that worked? Patronage. Overall he was able to use his pilfered portions to tell the essence of Old myths and histories and address the time and place in which he lived for the sake of royalty, after years of obscurity.

Even in a time when the populace at large was illiterate and filthy (in our own times, more often than not, voluntarily so), creativity did not stagnate. The English language evolved and met with difficulty, but it moved forward with truth in mind. True, copyists are eternal as art itself, and we are in fact still regurgitating Shakespeare in awkward clips and phrases, have been for centuries, but still we move ever onward and upward, despite efforts to the contrary.

Creativity is subjective, as are all things on the superficial level.

One cannot escape themselves. An artist does not steal as a common thief. An artist captures the essence of something, any thing at all, and reflects it at an audience, participating as scientists in an experiment on an intricate stage, waiting for a reaction to occur that is well beyond their direct control.

If one is dishonest in their artwork, it will either show or they will be uncovered as hacks, frauds, or worst of all completely unoriginal fools.

If they’re able to mix equal parts charisma and courage, working the industry to their advantage, manage their scheduling with galleries, all the things you’d expect, then perhaps they’ll get a break from some kind-hearted patron or foundation or station.

Perhaps one of these few gifted and straight-forward thieves will stand out from people who have to hone the illusion of their honesty to be noticed.

Imagine a blog nobody read, where a young man's primary accomplishment involved years of silence followed by garbled code to his future self, then a performance piece linking himself to the most toxic reality conceivable, embodying it fully, & then dying before having ever "made it" as a star writer/artist/whatever. Then, following his assassination by a bored covert ops agent that is shocked to discover the little bastard has stumbled upon a rigged disaster designed by some anonymously evil corporation (or coalition of the willing) for the sake of cashing in on some very lucrative CATASTROPHE BONDS, the whole film is shot to shit because all the major backers removed themselves from the filming. This is good, because if the FCC ever saw the film in its entirety, they'd commit a very unfunny act of coitus followed by murder/suicide, en masse.

The Utopia that Cosmic Engineers of Level 4.229 designed has obviously been wasted on these latest generations, their state of sleep never having had such strength. Rumors run through halls as to forthcoming upheavals.

Artists and writers, creative forces and the broad contents of the entertainment industry, have a duty, at the barest minimum, to keep their styles of information gathering honed in order to produce the most accurate mosaic portrayal of the zeitgeist they inhabit. Every being has an insight into its own part of the greater picture, and that insight informs or misinforms or disinforms others.

At this time it is my intent to foster a sense of mindfulness in students with regards to the technical creation and content of products produced by burgeoning industries that reward innovation, specifically the comics and video game industry.

These forms are adaptable enough and require such a large number of composers that they are forces of labor and love, methodical and technically masterful or utterly mundane.
